Note-taking

6th graders are new to the idea of note-taking and even having them fold a paper so that the left side is one-third of the paper and the right side is two-thirds can seem complicated! But once we made it through that explanation they were great. They are eager to follow directions and interested in almost anything. I am even impressed at their attention span during the last class of the day.

  1. Julie - that's great! I think note taking at 6th grade is a wonderful idea. In fact, I would think it is the perfect age to begin teaching them how to take notes. By the time students get to high school they should have already developed those skills. Did you use split-note taking?

  2. Sixth grade students are eager to learn and I am impressed you were able to get them enthused about this subject of note-taking. It sounds like folding the paper really helped them to understand how to take good notes.

I am glad their attention span is good too. This can be a very rewarding age to teach.

  3. Interesting about the note-taking process. I don't recall ever being taught to do this but I sure wish some teacher would have gone over this in such a memorable way!
